Cricketers often set staggering records and in some cases, records remain intact for a long period. When a player achieves something quite remarkable, then the records can truly become iconic and are often remembered by the fans as well and what Pakistan international Shan Masood achieved in List A cricket is simply superb. Pakistan Test captain can take pride in the fact that he accumulated the most runs in List A cricket in a calendar year.

The left-handed batsman amassed 1789 runs in the 2018 calendar year, wherein he maintained an exceptional batting average of 74.5. He played an attacking brand of cricket as he approached the game with a scintillating strike rate of 93.5. Shan Masood’s record is statistically impressive, which showcases his exceptional skill, talent, and consistency in the lofty standards of his gameplay.

Azam Khan feels nobody can break Shan Masood’s record

Meanwhile, Pakistan cricketer Azam Khan who has played 8 T20Is for the country is of the notion that no player will go on to shatter Shan Masood’s List A record for the most runs accumulated in a single calendar year. In a video clip, that has been doing the rounds on social media, Azam Khan threw an open challenge to the cricketing universe by stating that in case someone breaks Shan Masood’s record, then he would stand naked on the road.

The 34-year-old Shan Masood is the captain of the Pakistan’s Test set-up. He has played 33 Tests so far, amassing 1778 runs including 4 centuries and 9 half-centuries. Although he hasn’t carved out a reputation for himself as the pivotal player for Pakistan like he used to be in List-A cricket, he is expected to get much better over time. Shan Masood played 9 ODIs for Pakistan, scoring 163 runs whereas he scored 395 runs in 19 T20Is.

On the other hand, Indian cricketer, Shikhar Dhawan once held the record for scoring the most runs in a calendar year in List-A cricket as he scored 1682 runs in 2016. However, a couple of years later, Shan Masood went on to surpass Shikhar Dhawan’s record to etch his name into the record books.
