On Friday, Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium witnessed an electrifying atmosphere during a Women’s Premier League match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians. The stadium was packed to capacity, and the home team, RCB, received unprecedented support. The crowd’s deafening cheers were so intense that Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur had to cover her ears.

Just before the start of the 14th over of RCB’s innings, Ellyse Perry and Richa Ghosh were going all out with their batting, sending the crowd into a frenzy. The roar from the stands was overwhelming, and Harmanpreet, struggling to withstand the noise, instinctively covered her ears.
Women’s cricket is receiving tremendous support in Bengaluru, which is why most WPL matches are being held at Chinnaswamy Stadium. This season, the venue is set to host eight matches, with yesterday’s game being the first. RCB’s triumph in WPL 2024 has further fueled the massive support for their women’s team.

Talking about yesterday’s RCB vs MI match, Smriti Mandhana-led RCB posted a total of 167 while batting first, thanks to a stunning 81 off 43 balls by Ellyse Perry. Meanwhile, the same deafening crowd noise that troubled Harmanpreet Kaur was eventually silenced by her brilliant performance.
While chasing, Mumbai Indians’ captain played a crucial knock of 50 runs, supported by Nat Sciver-Brunt (42) and Amanjot Kaur (34). In the end, Mumbai Indians clinched a closely contested match by 4 wickets. Amanjot Kaur was named Player of the Match for her remarkable finishing effort in the final overs, sealing the win for MI.
