Team India’s former opener Gautam Gambhir has come up with another bold statement as he believes Virat Kohli’s return to form didn’t help the team’s cause in Bangladesh.
Gambhir gave a reminder about Team India’s loss against Bangladesh in the recently concluded ODI series and insisted that the focus should be on collective performances.
Loss against Bangladesh is a huge learning says Gambhir
Team India lost against Bangladesh in the 3-match ODI series by 2-1 as they lost the first two games and had a dismal batting performance in both games. In the third game, Ishan Kishan scored a double hundred while Virat scored 113 but those individual performances didn’t help the team’s cause as the Men in Blue had already lost the series.
India’s former batter Sanjay Manjrekar, who was part of the expert panel in the mid-match show during the second ODI against Sri Lanka, discussed Virat Kohli’s return to form. However, Gautam Gambhir was of the opinion that the focus should be on collective performances rather than individual brilliance.
“We should not forget that India had lost its last ODI series against Bangladesh. We have forgotten about it. Yes, individual brilliance is important, individual hundreds are important, it looks very nice when it comes to your record that you got your 50 hundreds or 100 hundreds, but you should never forget what has happened in Bangladesh. Because that is got to be a huge learning,” Gambhir said on Star Sports.
“India’s full strength losing to Bangladesh in Bangladesh, I think we should grow from there rather than focussing only on this series. What has happened in the past should not be forgotten,” he further added.

It’s worth noting that Virat Kohli was not at his peak in the last couple of years. He made a great comeback during the Asia Cup and carried on with his form in the 2022 T20 World Cup but wasn’t able to take the Indian team to triumph in both tournaments. While Virat has scored some crucial runs in the last couple of months, Team India is yet to perform well in multi-team tournaments.
