Team India under the leadership of Dhoni laid their hands on the coveted ICC Trophy after a wait of 28 years. The last time India had won the World Cup was way back in 1983 when Kapil Dev led underdogs created history. Although Dhoni finished the 2011 World Cup Final with a maximum, Gautam Gambhir played a crucial knock which in a way ensured the win for India. Fans have been divided in the favour of both the Indian cricketers and now Yuvraj Singh’s cryptic comment has retriggered the whole ‘Dhoni-Gambhir’ debate.
MS Dhoni was awarded with the ‘Player of the Match’ award after his unbeaten knock of 91 in the 2011 World Cup Final. A section of the fans believe that it was Gautam Gambhir’s knock that bailed India out of the early pressure and made things easier for the batsmen to come. They feel that Gautam Gambhir deserved the “Player of the Match’ award more than Dhoni. On the other hand, a certain number of fans favour Dhoni as he finished the game off and remained not out.
Gautam Gambhir commemorated the occasion as he posted one of his pictures from the World Cup Final. What grabbed the attention of the fans was Yuvraj Singh’s cryptic comment as he wrote, “The man of the finals! 2011 2002, #msd.” The interesting thing about his comment is that he used the hashtag MSD which has triggered the ‘Dhnoi-Gambhir’ debate all over again.

Whoever may have gotten the award, but no one can deny the fact that it was the teamwork of all the players which led to India’s victory in the 2011 World Cup Final. Both Dhoni and Gambhir’s knocks were crucial for the Indian team and ultimately it worked for the team and helped India secure a historic win.
