2022 Women's Asia Cup

The 2nd semi-final of the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 took place today between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

Batting first, Sri Lanka Women posted an under-par total of 122 runs on the board as Nashra Sandhu (3/17) and Nida Dar (1/20) made life.

In reply, Pakistan got off to a rollicking start as opening batter Muneeba Ali showed intent right from the beginning.

Though it looked like Muneeba would kill the game within the PowerPlay itself, destiny didn’t second that.

2022 Asia Cup Semis: Muneeba loses control of her bat to suffer a bizarre run-out

The peculiar and hilarious incident took place on the 1st ball of the fourth over of Pakistan’s chase.

Muneeba, batting on 18*(10) turned the ball to the short mid-wicket region and set out for a non-existent single.

However, her opening partner Sidra Ameen (9 off 20) sent her back from halfway down the pitch as Kavisha Dilhari fired an accurate throw to the SL wicketkeeper.

Though Muneeba had ample time to get back into her crease and put in a desperate dive to do so, fate just didn’t favor her. Upon putting in the dive the bat just slipped off her hands and she was caught short of her crease.

Muneeba’s dismissal turned out to be the turning point of the 2022 Women’s Asia Cup second semi-final. PAK women made just 90 runs off the next 101 deliveries to lose the game by 1 run.

Though the win in the knockout was not a convincing one for Chamari and her Lankan Lionesses, it has set them up for a finale date with India Women.

The final of the 2022 Women’s Asia Cup is gonna be held on October 15 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Earlier today, India Women had trampled Thailand by 74 runs in the 1st semi-final thanks to Mankad-enjoyer Deepti Sharma as the spinner took 3 wickets while giving away just seven runs.
