IND vs AFG: Team India could not have asked for a better start in the home assignment against Afghanistan. In the one-off Test match at Mullanpur, India completely outplayed Afghanistan and created history with a huge innings-and-300-run victory, the biggest win in India’s Test cricket history.
The match turned into a one-sided contest from the get-go. Shubman Gill-led Team India dominated the game across all facets of the game. They didn’t let the visitors dictate terms. Meanwhile, the attention shifts to white-ball cricket as both teams prepare for a three-match ODI series across Dharamshala, Lucknow, and Chennai.
IND vs AFG: Team India enter ODI series with confidence
The Indian camp looked relaxed and confident after the historic Test win against the visitors. The batters played with patience and control in the red-ball game, while the bowlers never allowed Afghanistan to settle.
India’s spin attack made the biggest difference. Test debutant Manav Suthar also created constant problems for the Afghan batters. He took seven wickets in the game and deservedly won the man of the match.
The Indian batting lineup also looked in complete control. The team built a huge first-innings score and slowly pushed Afghanistan completely out of the contest.
But ODI cricket can often tell a different story.
Afghanistan may have struggled badly in the Test match, but they remain a dangerous side in white-ball cricket. Over the years, they have built a team filled with aggressive batters and quality spinners who can change matches very quickly.
That is why India will still take the ODI series seriously despite the massive Test victory.
Afghanistan look to bounce back
The visitors will now try to forget the painful Test defeat and focus on the shorter format, where they usually feel more comfortable.
Afghanistan’s biggest strength remains spin bowling. Players like Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman know Indian conditions very well because of their IPL experience. If the pitches help spin, Afghanistan can definitely make the matches competitive.
The batting unit also has players who like to attack from the beginning. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, and others will look to play fearless cricket and put pressure on the Indian bowlers early.
Even though India start as favourites, Afghanistan have enough talent to challenge them in ODI cricket.
