Meaning of ‘We Saw You Cry On The Telly’ chants
Even after the passage of 5 years, the English have not held themselves back from trolling Smith on the sandpaper gate incident. The phrase is actually used to remind the Australian cricketer about the time when he cried and apologized for the mistake he made back in the 2018 South Africa vs Australia test.
The English crowd recalled the time when Smith cried after getting involved in the sandpaper incident. They wanted to tease the player as they always do whenever Australia visits England.
Ollie Robinson who was on strike at that time seems to have enjoyed the chants as he was smirking when the crowd was shouting. Whereas Steve Smith also took it maturely and was grooving with the chants as it sound so rhythmic.
However, this is not the first time when the crowd has teased Smith. Back in the 2019 Ashes series, he was trolled heavily by the English crowd however he gave a befitting reply with his bat on that tour.
