Punjab pacer Sandeep Sharma has been a consistent performer in IPL and the domestic circuit. Despite taking enough wickets in the past couple of years, Sandeep didn’t get any buyers in the IPL 2023 auction.
Disappointed after going unsold at IPL 2023 auction says, Sandeep Sharma
IPL 2023 mini auction saw some big shocks and surprises where a few players got bids way beyond expectations while some remained unsold despite performing consistently well. One such name is Sandeep Sharma, who has taken 114 wickets in IPL and has bowled well both with the new ball and in the death. Despite the consistency he has shown over the years for different franchises, Sandeep went unsold on December 23.
“I’m shocked and disappointed. I don’t know why I went unsold. I’ve done well whichever team I had played for and genuinely thought some team would bid for me. To be honest, I was not expecting this. Don’t even know where it has gone wrong. In domestic cricket, I have been performing well. In the Ranji Trophy, last round, I took seven wickets. I did so well in Syed Mushtaq Ali,” Sandeep told Cricket.com.
“I have always strived to be consistent in my bowling. And that’s the only thing in my hands. I can’t control selection or non-selection. If a chance comes then good, or else, I have to keep doing good work,” Sandeep Sharma further added after showing his disappointment.
Sandeep has previously represented Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League. After his consistent run in the domestic circuit, the Punjab-based bowler got a call for the national side and has played two T20Is for India. His ability to swing the new ball both ways always kept batters in their shell and had developed death bowling skills over time as well.
Sandeep Sharma had registered himself just at a base price of INR 50 lakh, but still didn’t find any bids in the auction room. Now, Sandeep will be hoping to get a call in case one of the teams rope him in as an injury replacement as the skill set he brings to the table is quite crucial.
