When MS Dhoni returned as captain after Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury, fans hoped for a spark. They wanted a comeback, a fight, something to cheer for in the ongoing season. But what they got instead was a complete collapse, and that too at their fortress.
They endured three straight defeats for the first time at Chepauk in an IPL season. As if that weren’t enough, they also suffered five consecutive defeats for the first time in IPL history. This was something that nobody expected in the first place, and the CSK fans took to their respective social media handles and questioned the team’s intent.
MS Dhoni’s CSK had a horror night at Chepauk. The crowd was buzzing, expecting vintage Dhoni magic. But nothing went right for them as Kolkata Knight Riders gave the Yellow Army a run for their money and were head and shoulders above the hosts across aspects.
CSK suffers their biggest defeat in terms of balls remaining
The three-time IPL champions crushed CSK by eight wickets and finished the game with a massive 59 balls to spare. It was not just a defeat but an embarrassment, as it is CSK’s worst defeat ever in terms of balls remaining.
CSK never looked to pose a serious threat in the game. They lacked intent as they played right into the hands of the KKR bowlers. Their batting was poor from the start. Wickets kept falling, and no one stood up before they crawled to 103 for 9 in 20 overs. That’s not the CSK we know.
Credit to KKR’s bowlers, though. They were sharp, accurate, and relentless. They choked CSK’s batters with pressure and smart bowling. And once the chase began, it was all KKR. Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine made sure there were no hiccups. They attacked from ball one and wrapped things up in a flash. Sunil Narine top-scored with an unbeaten 44 off 18 (2 fours, 5 sixes).
What makes this loss even worse is that it was MS Dhoni’s comeback as the captain. Fans were excited, hoping his return would lift the team. But the energy, the intent, and the fight were all missing, which felt like a wake-up call.
Fans’ reactions:-
Think about the fans atleast, @ChennaiIPL
Or they're just here to buy expensive tickets in large numbers, keep the stands filled with yellow jerseys and face all the humiliation?

Ashwin is so awful. Can't even bowl to LHBs in the powerplay.

Currently, they are placed ninth on the table. They need to fix things quickly before it’s too late. As far as we know, their batting order hasn’t fired yet. The bowling unit had their moments but lacked consistency so far. It remains to be seen how CSK will go about their business in the games to come. They will lock horns with Lucknow Super Giants in the next game on April 14 at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
